‘Tis the season to spend wisely

December 18th, 2012 admin

I love the holiday season. So much. I love all of the hype and the amazing window displays at Barney’s, Bergdorf and Saks. I love Rudolph, the Grinch, sparkly white lights and peppermint cake pops from Starbucks. Most of all, I just love, love, love all of the holiday love.

The five weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve are, by far, my favorite weeks of the year. They are also the most promotional and tempting from a retail standpoint: everything is on sale and it can be really easy to get carried away. As a wardrobe consultant I would be remiss not to point out the following: your closet won’t benefit from impulse purchases, no matter how deep the discount. Instead of buying at random, I suggest that you assess your closet, make a list of the items that you need to complete the puzzle and them take advantage of the sales and purchase in a focused way. Be strategic. Do some research from your phone to make sure you are getting the best deal. You will most likely be waiting in lengthy check-out lines so you will have the time to make an educated decision.

If you chose to spend wisely this season, you can transition into 2013 with a clear conscience and a heavier wallet. Save your money for the important things, like Spring 2013 RTW, which will hit the stores before you know it.
