Caution: "Low" Shopping Ahead

June 23rd, 2014 admin

I was talking to a good friend yesterday and she asked me my opinion on “Hi/Low” shopping, particularly which shopping realm I love more. The truth is, when it comes to apparel, I love both equally and for completely different reasons. I suspect I would feel similarly if I had more than on child. At least I hope I would.

The reality is that both realms can be glorious and treacherous. “Low” shopping is integral building a wardrobe that you love.  The product selection is endless and getting good deals on items that really make sense in your wardrobe helps to absorb the cost of bigger ticket items. The downfall is that many people (my clients included) tend to focus is put on the price, not on the piece…“But it’s only $19.90, I’ll buy it just in case”. The result is a wardrobe with a lot of white noise and zero substance. A better strategy exists. One in which there is balance and harmony, surrounding you with items you love.

Before purchasing, ask yourself  the following questions:

1) Do I die for this?

2) Does this look much more expensive than it is?

3) Can I think of at least three ways to wear it?

Be honest with yourself. If the answer is yes to all three, the purchase is worthwhile.  If not, move on.
