Closet Conundrum: Uninspired

August 16th, 2012 admin

I recently had a wardrobe-based epiphany. I was getting ready for a date and, since I thought that the guy was particularly handsome, I wanted to look particularly perfect. As a result, I was much more critical of my body and my ensembles. I tried on about 30% of my wardrobe and came up with two viable options. Terrible stats for a wardrobe consultant. I mean, what if the date was amazing and I needed to pack for a romantic get away to Paris? I would at least need some clothes. So I put myself to work and, using a hypercritical eye and the below listed strategy, dissected my entire wardrobe.

First, I pulled my favorite pieces for the season and built outfits around these pieces using items currently in my wardrobe. I identified the pieces that were missing from the assortment and made a concise list of what I needed to purchase to execute alternative looks. Then I isolated the pieces that I tried on that I no longer felt inspired by, decided whether these pieces need to be tweaked or tossed, and cleared out all of the remaining items that didn’t fit or flatter.

I added all of the things that I hadn’t worn in over two years – accessories included – to the substantial pile. I must say the amount of money I made from consignment and ebay was far more compelling than the mediocre-at-best date. At least now I can pay for my own trip overseas. I hear Paris is more fun as a single girl anyway.
