Don't Hate: Gut Renovate

May 31st, 2015 admin

Oh how I love a thorough wardrobe edit! It is the most cathartic part of my job: making space in life for things that you love by helping you say goodbye to the things that no longer suit you. Styles evolve, tastes change, lifestyles shift and, over time, and unedited wardrobe becomes a catch all with no direction. In extreme cases, the only solution is a gut-renovation.

I recently gutted a wardrobe for a new client who was totally game, brutally honest and self-aware. She kept eight pieces of clothing. Unbeknownst to her, those eight pieces painted the perfect picture of her style and gave me all of the information I needed to rebuild her wardrobe. It was the perfect opportunity for reinvention.

If you have a closet full of clothing but feel like you have nothing to wear, follow this simple streamlining strategy.

1. Try on each piece.
2. Put the items you hate in a pile for donation.
3. Put the items you love back in your closet.
4. Take a picture of your streamlined closet.
5. Bring that picture with you when you shop for new items.

Having a visual reference of the items you love will help you identify your personal style, shop smarter, spend wisely and ultimately make getting dressed a more pleasant experience. If you love something, buy it, When in doubt, walk out.
