Interim Closet Flip

May 22nd, 2015 admin

The climate in NYC has been incredibly unpredictable as of late. Brutal Winter. Barely noticeable Spring. It went from freezing to hot practically overnight. Case in point: I wanted to cut my hair short all winter but decided to wait until hat weather had passed. I chopped my hair the day it started to get warm and four days later it was so hot and humid that I resembled a mushroom. No bueno.

Over the past month we have experienced parka weather, cashmere sweater weather, bathingsuit weather and everything in between. To better prepare yourself for the range in temps, I recommend an interim closet flip. Store heavier weight and dark colored items. Keep spring forward colors and fabrications, light-to-midweight jackets and scarves. Below is a list of considerations:

• Store all sweaters with wool content. Keep lightweight cardigans and open weaves accessible.
• Store parkas, hats, gloves and scarves. Leave jackets and scarves in neutrals, bright colors and prints.
• Store dresses in wool, ponte or heavy jersey. Introduce summer dresses and rompers.
• Store heavy and darker colored (ie oxblood) denim. Keep lightweight denim and brightly colored twill.
• Store boots and winter shoes. Introduce sandals and summer sneakers.

Checking the forecast and dressing in layers is the best strategy until Summer truly arrives. When in doubt, take along a lightweight scarf.
