In honor of earth week, Grey and I have been discussing different topics – from consumption to waste – to see how small changes in our lifestyle can positively impact our earthly footprint. Reusable water bottles, coffee cups and straws are on deck, but even with those initiatives our recycling bin is overflowing. I know we are not fully optimized and we can do better with consumption, so we added visits to the farmer’s market, cutting back on red meat and composting to the list.It’s a work in progress, but we are committed to the cause, and having all of this top of mind has me thinking about clothing consumption and how to be impactful without being unrealistic.
So many of my clients hire me because they have fallen into the internet purchasing and return gap, habitually buying far more items than necessary, poorly managing the returns, keeping items that they are less than thrilled about and feeling underwhelmed with the results. This approach generates a lot of waste: wasted money, wasted transit, wasted time. Lose, lose, lose.
What would be a more optimized approach, you ask?
Hire a stylist to mindfully curate your wardrobe. A seasoned stylist can cherry pick all of the right styles from all of the right retailers and designers, greatly reducing the literal and figurative spinning of wheels. In addition, stylists are working at economies of scale, reducing waste and lessening your carbon footprint. Better for the Earth and better for you. Now that’s a win/win!
