Slow and Steady Wins the Race

I recently had a conversation with a friend about home decor and the challenge of identifying style when it comes to decorating a larger space. She knows what she likes but was finding the big picture to be a bit daunting. The idea of putting a label on her style only made the situation feel more stressful, particularly because she has no clue what it is. I can totally empathize…when asked to define myself or my style in two words I totally freeze. In fact, I find it to be virtually impossible unless one of the words is schizophrenic.

The process of renovating your home or your wardrobe is undoubtedly overwhelming. My advice: simplify your approach. Focus on acquiring only items that you absolutely love and use those items as your outline. Once that foundation is built, fill in the blanks with less expensive, complementary pieces. This mindful approach will more accurately reflect your personality and style than a rapid, ‘smash and grab’. The result will be a space or wardrobe that is authentically you. What could be better than that?
