Almost every client that I have worked with since Thanksgiving has started the appointment with a disclaimer. “I ate too much”…”I’m not even close to my goal weight”…”I’m so gross this week”…or, alternatively, “I’m finally skinny again”…
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, yet many of us feel pressure and strain, finding it difficult to reconcile our self worth if we are tipping the scale. So often we use the holidays as a scapegoat, blaming our negative self-talk on overindulgence at parties, but it exists year round for almost every woman I know.
Moving into the New Year I’d like to try something different. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, and I vote for a celebration of self-love and appreciation, no matter what our preconceived notions of weight or dress size might suggest. Let’s break the cycle of shame/blame, especially when it comes to our bodies, enjoy the holidays responsibly, and if we need to course correct come 2019 we can embrace that, too…with care!
