One of the commercials that I remember vividly from my childhood was the one where adults wearing suits ate cereal and transformed into their inner child. The size of the clothing stayed the same and there were all these little kids that looked like they were playing dress up. I am not at all surprised that I committed this commercial to memory – I think I was traumatized by all of the ill-fitting suits.
Fit is by far the most important aspect of suiting – a proper fitting suit should trace your body and be proportionate to your physique. If you are having a hard time finding something that fits you off the rack, consider investing in some made-to-measure pieces. The price is not that far off from what you would pay for a contemporary option and what you gain in the fit department will be priceless. You will undoubtedly feel better in a custom suit and will be far less likely to look like you are playing dress up. Im not suggesting that you act like an adult…just dress like one.
