One of the mantras that my mom instilled in me when I was growing up is that cleanliness is next to godliness. She always made sure the house was perfect for entertaining and took pride in her home. While I didnt fully buy into it until I had an apartment of my own, I specifically remember my first lesson in organization. At ten years old I needed to find my gymnastics team leotard for a team photo and, when I came downstairs empty handed, my mom attempted to find it herself. I can still see the horror on her face when she opened my closet door and realized that I was cleaning my room by shoving everything (including a banana peel and a half eaten chocolate jello pudding cup) inside and forcing the door shut. Grounded, party of one.
Fast forward a couple of decades: my home is clean and organized, my closet is impeccable and I never have trouble finding what I need. I learned that, just as having order in your world will help you achieve your personal goals, having order in your closet will help you achieve styling success. You will be able to get dressed easily and in a more inspired way when there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. That (and a jello pudding cup) sounds like great motivation to me.
