Whether runway trends have relevance depends largely on the climate, and the weather in the Northeast delivers in spades when it comes to Fall (which, btw, is one of my primary reasons for never moving below the Mason-Dixon line). This year I am planning on taking full advantage of this blessing and really going for it sartorially, focusing on what I consider to be the top five trend categories for Fall 2017. I recommend:
Red on Red on Red
Wear the color of the season in a head to toe statement, as shown at Givenchy, or a red statement boot, there will be an abundance of styles in gorgeous hues from tomato to deep cherry.
Victorian Era Everything
From the high collars shown at Valentino and Lemaire, to covered button details on blouses, skirts, pants at Rosie Assouline and Jonathan Simkhai, these victorian details will ensure that you look sexy even the chilliest of date nights. Pop into H&M for a budget-friendly take on this sophisticated trend.
Working Girl
Pant suits were all the rage on runways for Fall 2017 fashion week, with silhouettes ranging from frilly feminine to boxy androgenous and everything in between. At the high end, Rosie Assouline and Alexander Wang deliver designer looks at the edges of the spectrum, while Rebecca Taylor and Aritzia offer more accessible pricepoints.
Vintage Inspired Fur
Straight out of a scene from the “The Royal Tennenbaums”, vintage inspired fur was a favorite for Fall ’17, with Celine, JW Anderson and Vetements leading the pack. For an animal-friendly approach, both Zara and Aritzia offer stylish faux options at a fraction of the price.
Printed Outerwear
Warm outerwear with a twist, printed puffy coats from Ulla Johnson and Coach add femininity to an otherwise straightforward category and look great back to dresses and over-the-knee boots.
