changing the world, one stiletto at a time

I recently had the honor of styling an engagement shoot for a bridal client who, coincidentally, is half of one of the cutest couples I know. During our first appointment, the bride-to-be said she “isn’t a high heel kinda girl”. I liken this to someone saying she “isn’t a food kinda human”…utter ridiculousness. While I realize that I am somewhat extreme in my stance on heels (the higher, the better), I believe that it is a reasonable expectation for all women to own at least one pretty pair of heels.

The misconception that a higher heel is positively correlated with a greater level discomfort is not uncommon. When I encounter clients who are resistant to elevated heels I typically suggest the following: before eliminating the category altogether, try an assortment of different brands and styles. Heel height is only one part of the comfortable shoe equation. Case in point: I own 4-inch stilettos that are far more comfortable than ballet flats (thank you, Gianvito Rossi).

Focus back on the b2b, I was able to talk her into wearing a peep-toe pump with a moderate heel for one of the looks. The result: she looked timeless, elegant and far more feminine than she would have in flats. Bonus round – her fiancé loved them. She will definitely be wearing these heels again and her fiancé will definitely thank me again. Changing the world, one stiletto at a time. Who’s next?
