Forge Your Own Path

One of the common wardrobe challenges my female clients face revolves around how to define personal style. I frequently hear comments during initial consultations and wardrobe edits like the following:

I don’t know how to describe my style.

The things that I gravitate toward are all over the map.

There is no consistency when it comes to the things I really like.

In my opinion, the beauty lays in not having to commit to a certain “style”. Sometimes I like classic, sometimes boho, sometimes edgy, sometimes feminine. Most of the time I create balance by mixing it up. Today my look is edgy-feminine. Tomorrow is anybody’s guess.

Successful wardrobe building is about taking a collection of things that you love and adding a layer of coherence. The only real commonality that needs to exist is that you enjoy wearing everything you own. So go ahead and be a multi-hyphenate fashion maven or refrain from labeling your style entirely. Just buy what you love and the rest will fall into place. Motto of the day: don’t perseverate, liberate.
