Transitioning your Color Palette

February 7th, 2014 admin

I recently had a conversation with one of my clients about the validity of “Fall/Winter” color moving in to Spring. The impetus: she had fallen in love with the hunter green Celine bag and was uncertain about how it would transition. In her mind, deep hues were only appropriate in cold weather.

My approach is a bit more democratic. I am an equal opportunity employer of color and think, from black to white and everything in between, all shades are valid year-round when paired properly. Like everything else in life, it’s all about balance.

If you are still interested in wearing your darker pieces as the weather gets warmer, consider the following:

IMG_34321) start with a base of black and white

2) add the “Fall/Winter” color in question

3) introduce a lighter shade of the “Fall/Winter” color

I like cobalt with powder blue, hunter green with stem, royal purple with faded lilac, and burgundy with blush. Any questions? Just ask…
