Trend Spotting: Overalls

May 3rd, 2014 admin

I am the kind of girl that loves a lot of things but I have a particular affinity for the fashion industry. I love its accessibility, its inclusivity and, most of all, I love its dynamism. Each season I make a ‘hit list’ of the trends that I am gravitating toward (crop tops, guipure lace, birkenstocks, etc) and execute for my clients. And, since my clients all have styles that are as unique as their fingerprints, I have the good fortune of being able to approach new pieces in a myriad of ways.

I am fully committed to the idea that style is more about attitiude than age but I also am fully committed to dressing my clients in age appropriate pieces. Some trend-right items are trickier than others and the proper execution can be critical to success. Real time example: the overall. When done right, it can look incredibly sharp. When done wrong, well, you run the risk of looking ridiculous. If you are interested in this (or any) trend, ask yourself the following three questions before you buy:

1) Can I easily build an outfit that feels authentic around this item?

2) Am I excited to wear this outfit?

3) Do I look like a toddler?

If the answer to question 3 is yes, put it down and walk out of the store. If 1 and 2 are yes, go for it. One foolproof option: the Rag and Bone black leather strap box overalls worn with a white tee, a novelty jacket and pumps. Clean and classic with a twist, just the way I like it.
