Looking Festive for Less

December 17th, 2013 admin

December is, by far, my favorite month of the year. I love the holidays, the cheer, the snow and the presents. I love the reflection and closure and that New Year’s Eve incites and the prospect of change and progress that the New Year offers.

New Year’s Eve is particularly poignant for me because it is my birthday (did I mention I love presents?). While I prefer to stay in and celebrate with close friends, many of you will be out and about. I know this because December is also the time of year when I am inundated with emails regarding how to look festive for less. My answer: focus on cost per wear. Shy away from heavily embellished dresses with a limited life cycle. Instead, scan your closet for separates that read sleek and sophisticated and let the accessories speak for themselves. A leather peplum top, pencil skirt and leopard heel or a full skirt and cropped top are a great foundation. Pile on the jewelry (I love layering statement necklaces and bracelets), add party hair and makeup and you can ring in the New Year in style, on trend and under budget. Now that is my idea of a great start to 2014.
