One of my best friends is newly pregnant with her second child. She truly is a super-mom, juggling her family responsibilities and her career effortlessly, and she still finds time to be an awesome friend.
On top of everything she takes care of for her family, she now has to purchase maternity wear for her growing tummy and fall clothing for her growing toddler. She has also been suffering from momentary lapses of judgment that she likes to refer to as “pregnancy brain”. Unfortunately, these lapses in judgment have been manifested primarily in her apparel choices. Some of the purchases are frightening. Now, as a wardrobe consultant and stylist, it is my duty to ensure that my friends and family look great. I just can’t be there to monitor their every move (I am only one person, after all). So here is a bit of advice, probably the best shopping advice I can give anyone…
When in doubt, don’t!
If you are uncertain about a purchase that you are about to make – whether it be for your kids, yourself or your home – I have one simple rule. Put it back on the shelf. I am a huge proponent of surrounding yourself with only items that you absolutely love. There is so much amazing product on the market that you don’t need to spend on anything you are lukewarm about. So, if you don’t love the item, set it free.
